The principal accountability of this role is to provide leadership to Operations in the function of metals management and sales and operations planning. The incumbent sets effective supply chain strategy (ie: Vision) and is accountable for ensuring execution of the strategy through guiding and mentoring the staff. The role requires a thorough knowledge of customers, effective cost control, utilization and development of human resources, excellent communication, and exemplary leadership.
The key challenges facing this position are maintaining strong organizational effectiveness, defined processes, data integrity, and effective information systems. This position will need to establish world-class supply chain processes, along with metrics necessary to track supply chain effectiveness, efficiency, and opportunities. Position will also need to develop a strategic sourcing process to leverage capacity and improve reaction time to market disruptions for different products, markets, and customer bases. This position is also responsible to ensure that the location is in full compliance with the import and export laws of the countries where it does business, in a manner that is consistent with company values. Compliance with trade regulations will be achieved through a centralized process of classification, certification, and verification of import/export activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Effectively manages personnel in the areas of production control and logistics.
- Develop and execute a vision that delivers operational excellence, resulting in world class customer service and efficiency for the location
- Effectively manage forecasting, order management, production planning, warehouse, and transportation processes and associates
- Define, design and implement supply chain tools necessary to support a world-class supply chain.
- Build a world-class supply chain organization through identifying, coaching and mentoring talent as part of an overall succession planning effort.
- Perform strategic sourcing and capacity versus requirements studies to ensure efficient and effective deployment/utilization of resources to meet demand.
In addition to tracking and communicating progress, this position will establish short-term and long-term objectives for the supply-chain organization which will enable the dual locations to meet or exceed their business objectives through world-class customer service and efficiency.
- Establish continuous improvement processes and culture to ensure that supply chain maintains world-class status. Continually analyze process and procedures for opportunities to eliminate waste, streamline for efficiency and utilization of emerging tools and techniques.
- Design, implement and manage a robust customs compliance program. Define responsibility for completion of activities at the dual plant level and develop and define processes to perform these activities.
- Develop a personnel-training matrix that identifies what type of training is required, the timeframe for initial and renewable training, and tracks the status of the training program. Personally, conduct training as required.
- Design and implement an ongoing training program on import/export awareness for Plant and Division personnel, focusing on non-product issues and the regulations around common commodities, including, but not limited to ITAR, Routed Transactions, and TOSCA.
- Develop and maintain a Division wide import/export matrix to include classifications, license requirements and shipment restrictions.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for import and export activities in the areas of Compliance and Recordkeeping.
- Represent the company in dealings with customers, suppliers and governmental agencies. Has Power of Attorney, granted by BU president, to sign documents and file reports related to import/export shipments on behalf of the BU.
- Functions as an Expert resource to the dual location shipping locations in the area of import/export transactions, policies and procedures.
- Conducts periodic formal assessments of the Division and plant activities to ensure that policies and procedures are properly followed and that all activities and transactions are in compliance with the appropriate laws. Reports to Management on issues and opportunities and recommends solutions and project plans.
- Work with the International Transportation Department, Corporate Compliance Personnel, and Customs Brokers to ensure an efficient and effective process for import/export activities.
- Accountable for metals management and scrap utilization for Business Unit
- Ensure that all employment practices under his/her control, including hiring, promotions, demotions, and disciplines are conducted in compliance with equal employment opportunity laws and company policy.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or business from an accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications:
- Global experience in Supply Chain Management and/or Commercial leadership roles preferred
- MBA preferred
- 7 plus years work experience in progressive sales and operations planning leadership roles.
